In the years 1984 and 1985 the Belgian label Mausoleum has released a confusing number of albums, mostly by newcomers. Golden Core / ZYX studied the company s catalog and found musical treasures that still enjoy cult status today. One comes from the Netherlands and is named DARK WIZARD. The EP Devil s Victim from the year 1984 was already a harbinger of trends of the following years, traditional heavy metal, which despite a lot of melody has a dark undertone. It s understood that the album was then classified as Black Metal, even if this is completely wrong from today s perspective. The following album Reign Of Evil is considered an underrated pearl, as it was hardly noticed in the surge of releases by Mausoleum. The epic and cleverly varied Evil Spirits is a gem of European Heavy Metal of the eighties. Unusual is also the Doom Metal-like aesthetics of the Dutch band, without really playing this style. On top the songs are refined by independent and gruff vocals that make the music sound aggressive, without forgetting melodies and catchy choruses. A unique combination that one searches in vain today! The discs were extensively remastered by Neudi and therefore beat the 1994 released CDs of the Mausoleum Classix series . In addition to two unreleased live songs, the disc even includes a brand new track, which was recorded exclusively for this re-release. The comprehensive booklet contains numerous photos, memorablia and liner notes.
