Advancing on from 2020's stunning "Phantasmagorical Personification of the Death Temple", the second DMP album from São Paulo's ANARKHON raises the stakes in the realm of arcane rotting Death Metal: 23 years into their career and this band just gets darker and more devastating with every turn. Although permeated with decay, this is not purely old school Death Metal. There is a forward-thinking bent to the sublimated, twisted melodies which often contain echoes of angular contemporary Black Metal, a psychopathic precision in the brutal rhythms and horrific haunted vocalisations, with the whole bolstered by organic production preserving the putrefied atmosphere while maintaining instrumental clarity. At once ancient and innovative, listening to "Obiasot Dwybat Ptnotun" is like being dragged into a remorseless, churning hell-tunnel filled with cosmic Lovecraftian nightmares. Death triumphant.
