He recruited Christer Mentzer as a new singer whose astonishing vocal range was much better suited to the "new" Silver Mountain. He also replaced the Johansson brothers with Marten Hedener on drums, and session man Erik Bj-rn Nielsen on keyboards to join him and bassist Per Stadin. The difference was immediately striking! When Universe was released in 1985, the world had exploded with a new love for all that is heavy metal. Radio and MTV were all over the new breed of metal bands, and Jonas Hansson recognized how to take the band into a more commercial direction to grow with the changing times. On Universe, Silver Mountain magically combined this new maturity with a gloomier tone, creating songs shaped by a slicker production and even more swirling keyboard and guitar orchestration.
