THE MEZMERIST (Black Sabbath) "The Innocent, The Forsaken, The Guilty" [CD +DVD]
Heavy/Doom Metal from United States
Detailed Description
The Mezmerist remains one of the most enigmatic releases in U.S. metal history. Little is known about the band, and locating an original LP has always been a daunting task, as the band retained much of the initial pressing. Only 500 copies were made in 1985, making it a highly sought-after rarity, fetching premium prices on eBay. This reissue marks the first time fans of this obscure treasure have connected with its creator, Thomas Mezmercardo, whom we were fortunate enough to find. Since discovering him, it took an additional five years of collaboration to bring this release to life with the respect and care it deserves.
One of the most fascinating elements of The Mezmerist is the involvement of Bill Ward from Black Sabbath, who contributed drums on the first four tracks of the original EP. The events surrounding the recording remain shrouded in mystery, and Thomas himself shares the story behind this unique project in the DVD included with the release.
This isn’t just another over-hyped cult release. It’s a true lost gem of ’80s heavy metal, and unquestionably one of the most compelling albums of the era. While difficult to categorize, the best description might be Psychedelic Heavy Metal, drawing on influences from Led Zeppelin, Cirith Ungol, and Mercyful Fate. Presented as a double EP in a full-length format, this release offers a rare chance to experience one of metal's hidden masterpieces.
